His Mother's Son, by Cai Emmons The Seventh Tenet (working title) is the story of Cal Hogan, a white California minister, and Charise Johnson, his black journalist wife, also a dyed-in-the-wool Californian. Hogan, fresh out of seminary, is called to his first ministerial position in a small town outside of Boston. Charise has doubts about moving back east, but eventually they decide to go.  Welcomed like royalty, their charismatic presence changes this small town and in turn they are changed themselves.
